Evaluation of Sprinkler Irrigation Evaporation Losses in Ilaro, Ogun State, South Western Nigeria

Under the prevailing climate change world is currently facing, efficient irrigation water management essential to ensure food security, especially in countries with similar Nigeria. Hence, this study was undertaken at Research Farm of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, Nigeria evaluate evaporation losses during sprinkler between March and July 2019. Experiments were performed using 360 rotating single nozzle diameter 3 mm, while due cognizance taken climatic conditions. Three operating pressures, namely, 50 kPa, 100 kPa 150 representing low pressure, medium pressure high respectively, used. The results showed that pressures influence droplet sizes, heights flow rate experiment. In addition, it observed mean percentage 8.88%, 13.21% 16.46%, indicating increased increasing pressure. Further analysis higher relative humidity, thereby emphasizing predominance air temperature wind velocity as variable influencing losses. relationship (Vw ) (Ta) predict (E a function E = 7.968Vw + 0.393Ta – 19.977. Therefore, concluded that, both factors irrigation, adequate attention should be paid variation variables since sprinklers are sold their specified pressures.
